What is WordPress? Here’s all you need to know

There’s a lot of buzz around WordPress right now, but what is it? How can it help your business? And most importantly: Is it worth using? I’m here to answer all these questions and more.

What is WordPress?

You’ve probably heard of WordPress. The content management system (CMS) software is used by more than 29% of all websites, and powers over 60 million sites in total. It’s also the most popular CMS on the internet, so it’s likely you’re using it right now without even knowing it. You might have a blog written in WordPress; your favorite news site may use it; or perhaps you’ve seen a website that looks like this:

“WordPress is an open source website platform with an estimated 43% market share as of February 2022.”

It’s an open-source platform.

Open source software is a type of program that comes with the code to create and distribute it. Think of open source like an unfinished block of wood—you can do whatever you want with it, whether that means cutting off a piece and building something new, or adding more pieces to make a bigger picture. Open source programs are often free to use and can be modified by users on their own devices or computers.

Open source projects also have communities full of developers who contribute code, review other people’s contributions, or even just offer feedback through forums. Sometimes these communities are small but fulfilling—like when someone writes a poem they’re proud of and posts it on a blog site where other poets will read their words (ahem). Other times they’re enormous: Linux is one such example; its community includes over 15 million registered users worldwide! And then there are those who work specifically on open source platforms like WordPress…

It’s customizable using plugins and themes.

One of WordPress’s biggest strengths is the fact that it’s customizable. With a few clicks, you can add new functionality to your website or change how it looks.

You can install plugins from the WordPress repository, or even download them from other sources (like GitHub). There are thousands of free and paid plugins available online—and if there’s something specific you need but don’t see in the repository, you can even create your own!

Of course, just because a plugin exists doesn’t mean you should use it; if something doesn’t meet your needs, there isn’t any point in adding it to your site. The same goes for themes: while there are plenty of free options available online, they may not be exactly what you need—or even look good on your particular site. To get started customizing your theme without breaking anything important (including yourself!), try installing one or two basic starter themes to see what works best for each situation before moving forward with an upgrade later on down the line when things start getting tricky again.

WordPress is easy to use.

WordPress is great for beginners and businesses alike, as it’s streamlined and intuitive. You can also find hundreds of free themes and plugins that will help you customize your site to fit your brand—or just have fun with an interactive blog post or something more complex like e-commerce.

It’s well-documented.

In addition to the fact that WordPress is open source, it also has a large community of developers and users. This means there are plenty of people who can answer your questions about WordPress, whether you’re trying to figure out how to set up a site or troubleshoot an error message.

If you want to install plugins and themes on your site, then you’ll need FTP access—that’s where the next section comes in handy!

It has a built-in blogging platform.

WordPress is a blogging platform.

You can start your own website without ever touching code, and then customize it however you want. The best part? Anyone can do it!

It has a vast community of users, developers, and contributors.

The WordPress community is one of the largest in the world, with more than 60 million websites using it. The community is made up of users and developers, who have contributed to making WordPress what it is today.

You can find support from other users at their forums or by chatting with other users on IRC (#wordpress on freenode). There are also many blogs written by members of the community that you can read as well as a few books written about WordPress (such as this one!).

You can easily manage your website with WordPress

WordPress makes creating a website or blog easy for anyone. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, everyone will have the same experience using it. The interface is simple, clean and intuitive to use so that even those who haven’t used any other CMS before can easily get started with WordPress.

Even the most inexperienced users can create their own blogs and websites within minutes on this platform thanks to its user-friendly features such as drag & drop page builders (like SiteOrigin) and live previews that allow you to see how your changes will look without having to click “Save Draft” every time you want to make something different – just like when using Microsoft Word!

This ease of use also makes it possible for beginners who are just starting out with blogging/website creation not only because they won’t get overwhelmed by technical terms but also because they won’t feel intimidated by them either; even if someone has never worked with HTML code before then there’s nothing stopping them from doing so now since everything happens right here inside this program window which makes things easier than ever before: no need anymore worrying about configuring server settings manually either since everything gets done automatically after installation process finishes successfully!

I hope you now feel confident about what WordPress is and why it’s so powerful.

From its roots as a blogging tool, WordPress has grown into an incredibly robust content management system that can be used for any number of purposes. With over 60 million websites out there running on WordPress right now, it’s clear that this platform has made itself indispensable for anyone who needs to manage their online presence—and I think you will too!
