Building a bilingual student accommodation website for ValeRoom

Valencia, Spain · international students

The challenge

ValeRoom finds verified rooms in Valencia for international students, in shared student flats or with local host families. Much of the service is one to one: students contact the team from all over the world, often through property portals, and are shown rooms by video call before they arrive.

The business needed a website of its own that could do that groundwork: show every available room with real photos and prices, answer the questions students ask before moving to Spain, and work in both English and Spanish, so students and their families could book with confidence.

It also had to be found. Students search in both languages for rooms near the universities, so the site needed to be built for search from day one, not fixed afterwards.

My role

01

Web designer

A clean, photo-led design that puts the rooms, the prices and the next step front and centre.

02

Web developer

A fast, lightweight static build with English and Spanish versions of every page.

03

Technical SEO specialist

hreflang, structured data for every room listing and a site structure built around what students search for. Technical SEO.

The solution

A room catalogue students can trust

The site is built around the rooms. Every listing has its own page, so students can compare options before they get in touch:

  • Room pages: photo gallery, monthly price including bills, nearby universities and availability for every room.
  • Simple filtering: students switch between all rooms, shared student flats and host families in one tap.
  • Trust signals: tenant-verified badges on every room, and ValeRoom's Google reviews (5.0 from 63 reviews) on the homepage.
  • Easy contact: a WhatsApp button always in reach, plus a contact page, because that's how international students prefer to ask questions.

Bilingual and fast

Many students, and the parents helping them, search in Spanish as well as English, so the site works fully in both:

  • English and Spanish: every page in both languages, with translated URLs (for example /es/alojamiento-estudiantes/) and hreflang tags so Google shows the right version.
  • Lightweight static build: plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with self-hosted fonts, hosted on Netlify. No heavy plugins and nothing to update every week.
  • Light and dark mode: a theme switch in the header, for comfortable reading at any time of day.

Built for search

Search was planned in from the start, at the level of individual rooms:

  • Structured data: each room page describes the room, its address, amenities and monthly price (Room, Apartment and Offer schema), plus breadcrumbs on every page.
  • Student Resources: in-depth guides such as Study in Valencia and Learn Spanish in Valencia answer what students search for before they move, and lead them to the rooms.
  • Complete sitemap: an XML sitemap covering every room and guide in both languages.
The results

A direct, bilingual booking channel

  • DirectIts own channel: students browse verified rooms and contact ValeRoom directly, without going through a property portal.
  • EN + ESTwo languages, one site: every room and guide is available in English and Spanish, linked so search engines show the right one.
  • SchemaRich listings: room pages carry structured data for price, address and amenities, so search engines understand each offer.
